Researching the public: post-war policy, politics and polling

Available to purchase in a limited-run printed format

Also available in electronic format for download

This book, the third in the series, ‘Showcasing the Archive’, focuses on the role of research in the public arena and highlights the vast amount of material in the Archive which illustrates the impact of the research and insights sector on issues of societal concern.

The first book was an historical document focusing on the development of the industry. The second concentrated on how our society has changed and demonstrated the value of tracking these changes through the decades. In this book, we turn to government policy and politics and look at how research has influenced public life.

With a preface by Bobby Duffy, Professor of Public Policy and Director of the Policy Institute, King’s College London, and featuring contributors including Professor Sir John Curtice, Peter Kellner and Kaye Wellings, this book and its predecessors, by showcasing the richness of the data in the Archive, show how, as Bobby Duffy says in his preface, “echoes repeat” and “patterns reassert themselves”. In doing so, they help keep the past alive. It’s an essential addition to the library of anyone interested in modern British political history.
