We’re delighted to announce that Gill Wareing and Inger Christensen have been included in the Market Research Society’s first set of 25 Research Heroes – part of a year-long programme to spotlight individuals in the research sector.

Both Gill and Inger have played vital roles in the establishment and development of the Archive of Market and Social Research, in addition to their considerable career contributions, and we’re very pleased that they have received this recognition of their wider work within the market research sector.

Gill Wareing

Gill Wareing’s career in market research began in 1975. She started her career as assistant secretary – general at the Market Research Society and went on to help run the Market Research Benevolent Association ( 1981-2007 ), the Interviewer Quality Control Scheme ( 1987-2017 ), the Research Network (since 2002 ), and AMSR (since 2017 ).

Wareing was nominated as a Research Hero for knowing the market research business “like the back of her hand”.

Inger Christensen

Inger Christensen is one of the founders of market research recruitment company Daughter of Sailors and chair of the MRS Flex Forum.

Christensen was nominated as a Research Hero because: “She is always a vocal advocate of the industry and is annoyingly passionate about bringing in new talent and nurturing/growing current talent. She has worked with many juniors and now sees them in their roles as directors. She has never been a ‘quick buck’ recruiter, but an ex-researcher who genuinely wants to see people and the industry develop and excel – even more so in the last 12 months, when she has been actively promoting the Flex Forum and engaging business leaders and managers with this.”

Following a call for nominations from the industry, the final 25 were decided from the list by a panel of judges including Unilever’s Gemma Bumpsteed, HSBC’s Lucy Watts, Kenny Imafidon of ClearView Research, MRS chief executive Jane Frost and Katie McQuater, editor of Research Live and Impact.

Research Heroes is an ongoing programme throughout 2021, with a second tranche of Heroes to be published in October. Nominations are now open for the autumn list.
